I saw The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway today. It was an uproaringly funny show, every character being a comedic relief of some sort. The show begins with a man sitting in his apartment playing his favorite musical on record: The Drowsy Chaperone.

The show comes alive in his apartment with the characters coming across his floor and through his door. The show is about a would-be marriage between a famous stage star, Janet Van De Graaff, and her fiance Robert Martin. The show is steeped with hilarity and is a great way to get in a Broadway show without the seriousness of The Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables. If you are looking for a lot of dance, this show is not for you! With the exception of a tap number, there is very little dancing. The singing, however, is spectacularly over-the-top (making the show even funnier) and the situations are rediculously hilarious. If you are looking for a funny escape for an evening, go see The Drowsy Chaperone! But I would recommend a speedy trip to either TKTS or ticketmaster because rumor has it this show is not doing as well as it has in the past and might be leaving Broadway shortly.
