July 19: Bright eyed and bushy tailed crew finally get on the road in a white minivan and big yellow truck a little after 8. Two of the most unlikely of friends were destined to play follow the leader for the next three days. Meggi proceeds to immediately fall asleep and stay that way until stopping for lunch. Those of you who know her will understand Allison’s pain and suffering. Lunch was at a rest stop in God knows where. Actually it was a very nice place and I am sure it is fun and exciting, but we were not there long enough to find out anything but how well the bathrooms worked and the state of the picnic tables. After lunch, Meggi falls asleep. Big surprise. Randy and Cheryl valiantly drive the big yellow truck along its way and Bob and Chris play DJ for Allison, while Meggi still sleeps in the seat next to her. Calling it a day, we stopped for the night in Ohio (just past Columbus). Dinner was a roarin’ good time at the Chile’s down the street. While the men jaunted off for an adventure to find foam for the lovely bench seat of the truck, the ladies proceeded to order wine. Period.

July 20: Dead to the world, we awoke to find fuel for both cars and humans. After the gas station, we sought the Starbucks (foreshadowing Meggi’s future employment) and hit the road. Contrary to popular belief, Meggi proceeded to read to the people dwelling in the white van from the book The Expected One. Because of the recent coffee consumption, the gang needed a pit stop. Afterward, the girls got the van and the boys drove the truck. While it is unknown what went on in the truck, the girls sang to a variety of show tunes. We stopped that night in Fords, New Jersey at an Indian Palace. Now, you may think we are exaggerating, but no. It was actually a palace complete with firework sculptures and authentic Indian food.

July 21: Following breakfast at the Indian Palace, we drove through Staten Island and met Woolfie at the apartment where he had stayed the night. Unloading immediately commenced. Many maneuvers were made by other cars to bypass the big yellow truck blocking part of the road. The most notable one, however, was the Coca-Cola truck, who finally gave up and backed his huge truck up half the street. Any math majors out there? Well, let me tell you, five million steps might be close to accurate. Much to our surprise, we finished unloading the whole truck at both apartments in two hours. After getting rid of the truck, New York fun began at last! No resting for this crew, however. We headed off to lunch at Junior’s and then back to unpack before heading to Little Italy for dinner. Bob drove the minivan like a pro through Manhattan taxi cabs, to Sean’s work. From there, we walked several blocks and found a delicious Italian dinner, and for dessert, cookies in Times Square! After this long day, we headed to our respective places and crashed for the night.
